Why do mercedes vito rust

Awful vans IMO, three mates have them and all have been nothing but trouble. Mate 1 has a transporter t5 — Huge bills and problems since he bought it at about 90k. Clutches, water pump, leaks at the windows, iffy steering noises etc.

We ran 15 transits, lwb, swb, fwd, rwd — seemingly most engine and body variants — as minibuses. You pays yer money and takes a gamble….

And it was going rusty at less than five years old.. And lots of interior bits fell off.. And it was rusty, Edit, and a little plastic bit of the gear linkage broke, it cost about 50p to buy and about a gazillion quid to fit..

It was nice to drive though.. Edit 2, it was rusty, I think Volkswagon knobbled the designers.. I just thought I'd give our members an insight into the appalling attitude of Mercedes Benz customer service Click to expand Sadly MB have clamped right down on repairs.

If you want to pursue them through courts, then timing is everything - if done for the first blemish it might leave you with nowhere to go when more appears down the line. Leave too late and the court Will be less sympathetic. I personally think there's room for further negotiation without threat of litigation - simply fitness for purpose. Remind me Paul, did you buy from an MB main dealer? Bobby Dazzler said:. BTB said:. Sorry to hear of your problems. The chrome trim is a Viano part, and like the chrome grille is standard on the Sport and Sport X versions of the Vito.

Nice to see that Mercedes have got their paint processes sorted and that they give full peace of mind in the event of any issues relating to corrosion.

I bet now you wish you had just followed Nick's advice and bought a Vivaro! Hang your heads in shame, Mercedes-Benz. Yet again. It is your basic right to have a Warranty Claim addressed by a manufacturer if a part supplied and fitted by them has caused a problem. It'll go viral Europewide.

Phone MB Customer Services on They are well familiar with the problem of a tailgate bubbling up just above a chrome tailgate trim. Has anyone else had similar Mercedes problems? Thanks in advance. In my view the problem is what the road authority sprays or spreads on the roads in winter rather than how Mercedes builds its cars and that the UK is a narrow island surrounded by lots of salty air. I think it is easy to target the manufacturer. I haven't seen anybody here taking the issue up with the responsible road authority in the UK. It is notable that the Mercs dont have a rust problem at all in AUS. Aussie Nick said:. Click to expand None had rust problems but my W C has rust on rear wheel arches, nsr door and bonnet.

Keep the rust issue discussed openly, don't see 10 year old hyundai's riddled all around the extremities. We've got someone on here has found rust on an R class for pete's sake. MB reps must occasionally browse these forums, i say let 'em know thats its not forgotten or forgiven, and we'll believe 03 is the magic year when they're 10 years old and rust free, just like a hyundai.

I will say one thing in defence, not of MB, but of many makers, and that is owners neglect. I've bought dozens of cars over the years and not one was cleaned out under the wheelarches with years of mud and salty filth sitting in recesses for eternity.

I know i baby my vehicles, probably too much, but my cars are hosed down regularly underneath to help prevent this very problem. Having said that, if other cars can stand the neglect, then a quality engineered vehicle certainly should.

Go for the eVito, and there's decent acceleration off the line — but again that can put pay to the van's driving range — and it's extremely quiet and refined at low speeds, while tyre noise is the biggest issue the faster you go. The Vito rolls off the same production line in Vitoria, Northern Spain, as the V-Class passenger carrier, but Mercedes has taken greater steps to differentiate the two in the cabin than it did with the previous generation Vito and its Viano cousin. The Vito gets a completely different fascia than the V-Class with Merc passenger car plushness replaced by solid, workmanlike simplicity.

The design is a sparse, no-frills effort but comes immaculately constructed. In the negative column we have the dated infotainment console with its small 7-inch touchscreen and ageing sat-nav software — although Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now included.

Storage options for small items are plentiful, although the narrow door pockets and lack of an overhead shelf mean bigger items will be harder to place.

The unlined cubby cut in the dash that the Vito offers as a phone holder feels half-baked and will probably lead most drivers to shell out for an aftermarket phone cradle.

It also offers a lower and more car-like driving position than a Vivaro or Ford Transit Custom. Mercedes fits a double passenger seat to the Vito, and the cabin is wide enough that it's comfortable to sit three-abreast without banging shoulders. Skip to Content Skip to Footer.
