When was mary magdalene declared a saint

It is said that Jesus loved His disciples very much. It is this same love that Jesus accorded Mary Magdalene to the chagrin of Saint Peter the Apostle who used to ask Jesus why He loved her more than them. Mary had been possessed by seven demons as illustrated in the Gospel of Luke and Mark. There were also women looking on from a distance. Mary Magdalene was a witness to the burial of Jesus as illustrated in Mark and Matthew Then he rolled a stone against the entrance to the tomb.

Then he rolled a huge stone across the entrance to the tomb and departed. Whom are you looking for? Mary Magdalene is usually confused with Mary of Bethany. Mary hurried back to the Apostles to tell them that she had seen the Risen Christ. Mary lived in the town of Magdala. This small town on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee was a place where Jesus spent much of his time preaching.

This is probably where Mary first came to know Jesus. She wiped his feet with her hair and then poured perfume on his feet. The Gospels tell us that Jesus released seven demons from Mary. We are not sure what the evils were, but over the centuries people have guessed that she was an immoral woman. The Vatican has said this is not so, and many scholars believe that the reference means she was cured of illness by Jesus.

The one thing we can know for sure about Mary is that she was the first person to see the Resurrected Christ. Mary likely watched the crucifixion from a distance along with the other women who followed Christ during His ministry. Mary was present when Christ rose from the dead, visiting his tomb to anoint his body only to find the stone rolled away and Christ, very much alive, sitting at the place they laid Him.

She was the first witness to His resurrection. After the death of Christ, a legend states that she remained among the early Christians. After fourteen years, she was allegedly put into a boat by Jews, along with several other saints of the early Church, and set adrift without sails or oars. The boat landed in southern France, where she spent the remaining years of her life living in solitude, in a cave.

Mary Magdalene's feast day is July She is the patroness of converts, repentant sinners, sexual temptation, pharmacists, tanners and women, and many other places and causes. Copyright Catholic Online.
